Rationale Statement for Brains
Howard Good describes what brains mean in true education as, "It is a matter of how you use the brains you've got. Perhaps the degree to which you use them with joy and reverent awe is precisely the degree to which you are well educated" (Good, p. 18.) He goes on to describe how it is the responsibility of educators to instill in their students a true desire to learn. In order to accomplish this, educators must make learning engaging, meaningful and authentic. I also feel that educators themselves must have an intrinsic desire to learn, an inborn hunger for knowledge. If our students are to develop their desire to learn, then we must model that desire. The INTASC teacher standards that reiterate these notions are Standards #1, #2 and #3. I have provided two key pieces of evidence which reflect how I have demonstrated the standards and the Alverno Education Abilities I have also used.
