Rationale Statement for Heart
Teachers who teach to the heart "...can implement cooperative learning, organize children into groups whose members are different from one another in race, gender, socioeconomic status, and ability level" (Good, 53.) I have to say that I feel a more appropriate term other than race would be culture. That being said, I feel that this concept of heart is in direct agreement with Vygotsky's beliefs in that we learn from each other. I also feel that if teachers are to create social learning environments then they must teach students positive social skills; not as an aside to lessons but integrated into every aspect of the classroom culture. The INTASC teaching standards that I see reflecting concepts of heart are Standards #6 and #7. Each of these pieces of evidence provided is a reflection of how I have demonstrated those standards as well as which Alverno Education Abilities apply.
